In Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar celebrated a Supreme Court ruling as a pivotal victory for democracy, describing it as a joyous occasion for democratic forces across Pakistan. This sentiment was shared during a gathering with PTI leaders, during which Barrister Gohar emphasized the unity and strength of their movement.
The Supreme Court’s decision granted PTI the reserved seats previously allocated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to the ruling coalition. This outcome sparked widespread celebration among PTI members and supporters, affirming their legal struggle for rightful representation.
Addressing the media, Barrister Gohar expressed deep gratitude towards the judiciary for upholding democratic values by returning the mandate to its rightful holders. He specifically acknowledged the efforts of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his strategic delay in the KP Assembly’s oath-taking, which he credited with averting unnecessary re-elections.
The verdict also led to strong calls for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja and other ECP members, whom PTI leaders accused of bias and malice against their party. Omar Ayub Khan, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, praised the legal team and stressed the significance of the victory for truth and justice.
Senator Shibli Faraz criticized the current government’s legitimacy and lauded the judiciary for defending justice and democracy, viewing the ruling as correcting the ECP’s unconstitutional actions.
This landmark decision is seen by PTI as not just a legal victory but as a crucial step toward strengthening democracy in Pakistan, aiming to restore public trust in the electoral and judicial systems.
