The Batman is an American superhero film directed by Matt Reeves, set for release in 2022. This is the ninth batsman-centric film created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. He’s not part of the DC Cinematic Universe, like One Time Told.
This film stars Robert Pattinson as the title role of Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Sphinx, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon.
Production
After being cast as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Ben Affleck began developing a character-centric film with Geoff Johns, initially having to direct, write, produce and play the lead role. In February 2017, Affleck left the film’s directing and writing to focus on his portrayal of Batman. Matt Reeves took over as director and screenwriter the following month, rewriting the story to focus on a younger Batman, with the intent of exploring the character’s investigative abilities to a greater extent than previous film releases.
In January 2019, Affleck left the role, declaring himself dissatisfied with the script he was writing with Geoff Johns and that he would no longer play Batman. In May 2019, Robert Pattinson was cast as the new lead actor. It was also revealed that the film would not be a prequel and that this new version of the character would have no connection to the one seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
