In Lahore, a shocking turn of events, four suspects involved in the kidnapping, looting, and torturing of renowned drama writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar have been arrested. The incident, which has left many in the entertainment industry and beyond in disbelief, unfolded chillingly.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, the harrowing ordeal began on the night of July 15. At around midnight, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar received a call from an unknown number. The caller, identifying herself as Amina Urooj, claimed to be a huge fan of his work and expressed a keen interest in collaborating with him on a drama project.
Qamar was intrigued by the proposal and agreed to meet. Amina provided a location in Bahria Town, Lahore. He reached the specified location at 4:40 PM, where Amina greeted him. Shortly after, there was a knock on the door. Amina excused herself, mentioning that a delivery had arrived.
As soon as she opened the door, approximately seven armed men stormed into the room. The intruders immediately began searching Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and confiscated his wallet, which contained Rs. 80,000, and his mobile phone, valued at Rs. 150,000. The writer was then subjected to intense harassment and threats.
The assailants took Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar to an ATM at gunpoint, forcing him to divulge his password and withdraw a significant amount of money. They demanded a staggering Rs. 10 million from him. The situation escalated when Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar explained that he did not have such a large sum. The armed men blindfolded him and transported him to a flat where five more armed men awaited.
In the flat, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was further assaulted and coerced into a car. The kidnappers drove him around, stopping at various locations. At one point, they stripped him of his valuable wristwatch, worth Rs. 100,000, and subjected him to torture further.
Throughout the ordeal, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar pleaded for his life, trying to arrange for money by contacting friends and relatives. Despite his efforts, he could only ask a friend for Rs. 1 million, but the friend could not provide the amount. The kidnappers, frustrated by the lack of funds, eventually left Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar in a deserted area after hours of driving.
Still reeling from the terrifying experience, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar managed to contact the police. He stated in the FIR that he could identify the culprits if presented with the opportunity. He demanded that his stolen belongings be returned and strict action be taken against the perpetrators.
In response, the police have registered a case under sections 395 and 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Sunder police station in Lahore. The swift action by law enforcement led to the arrest of four suspects believed to be involved in the crime.
