In Karachi, a legal case has been initiated against the religious scholar Sahil Adeem following allegations of using hateful language against the Sindhi community. This action comes after an old video showing Sahil Adeem making derogatory remarks resurfaced and sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The controversial video, reportedly over a year old, features Sahil Adeem discussing historical invasions in India and Sindh. In it, he makes contentious statements regarding the Sindhi people, including a problematic analogy comparing Sindh to Gaza regarding conflict.
Moreover, Sahil Adeem criticized the traditional feudal system in Sindh, making unsubstantiated claims about Sindhi families and their cultural practices. His remarks extended to making broad generalizations about the religious integrity of the Sindhi people, equating their actions unfavourably with those of Hindus.
The backlash was swift and significant, with many social media users from Sindh calling for immediate legal action against him. Responding to these demands, a lawyer’s request prompted the police to register a case against Sahil Adeem at a local police station in Karachi. The charges include making hate speech and inciting discord among communities.

The police officially filed the case on July 13 and commenced an investigation. However, efforts to detain Sahil Adeem have not resulted in his arrest. The scholar, who hails from Punjab, is known for appearing on various television programs discussing Islamic topics.
This is not the first time Sahil Adeem has faced criticism for his public statements. On a recent TV show on June 30, he made controversial comments about the educational status of the majority of the country’s women, describing 95 per cent of them as ignorant, which also drew public ire.
